Golf Course Reviews

Formosa - 20 June 2010

After a lot of rain throughout the weekend, we tee'd up at 11am. Thankfully we got around dry although the course was still quite wet which didnt suprise us really. With bunkers not draining too well.

The greens had drained well so were running true, however this did not help us with all 4 of us having our fair share of 3 putts.

The length of the course had us guessing abit with a 567metre par 5, and a 207metre par 3 straight in to the wind (Craig hit driver)

Highlights of the day were Marks pitch on 14th from 40metres which ran over the side of the cup and finished a foot away (easy par for the 18 handicapper). And Haydn's second shot in to 18 from the fairway bunker with a 6 iron over the water about 160metres to 15 foot(missed the putt but still made 4 look easy on a challenging final hole).

Friendly staff, great facilitys and the good weather all helped to make it a great day for all.

Wairakei 11 July 2010

Review from Mark Jones

Wairakei  international golf course would have to be the best course I have played on.

The fairways were in very good condition, as were the bunkers with lots of sand, which was good as I managed to find  them quite frequently.

The greens were a different story they were hard as there had been a very good frost. They were also very fast (apparently running at about 12 foot!!). You had to be below the hole or you would have trouble getting the ball to stop as I found out on the 14th. I was just on the green above the hole, I only gave the ball a tap it was looking alright until it got to the hole and picked up speed and ended of the green.

I don’t think there was anybody in the twelve of us that went that did not have trouble with the greens but that is golf. I really enjoyed the day and would definitely go back.

Best hole was the 14 even though I had trouble it was a picture walking up to the green with the big trees all the way up to the green.
